Participating in the Ministry of Sacristan is a privilege and an honor. Attention to detail is a must for this Ministry. The duties of a Sacristan include preparing the sacred vessels and other important items for use on the altar during the Liturgy of the Eucharist.

Following Mass, duties include clearing the credence table, washing the vessels, and putting all related items away in specific locations in the Sacristy.

A Sacristan shows the Assembly how important this Ministry is by dressing appropriately, respectfully approaching the altar by bowing reverently, and by actively participating in the Mass and other parish activities. 

Sacristans are assigned a Mass time and month according to preferences. Sacristans are asked to arrange for a substitute if illness or an unexpected absence occurs.

Training is provided.
